The Dental Leaf Gauge is an essential tool used to locate centric relation and in adjusting occlusions. The dentist or assitant places a number of gauge leaves into the oral cavity at the midline, resting on (and parallel to) the lingual surfaces of the maxillary central incisor teeth. The patient is instructed to close on the back teeth until a lower front tooth touches the underside of the leaves. Leaves are added or subtracted to where the patient can just barely feel a posterior tooth touch.
